Apple Strudel
A dessert recipe from Mrs. Lois Himsl (Kalispell).
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup bread flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup very warm water
- apples or dried fruit
- sugar, cinnamon
- butter (for brushing)
Directions
- 1
Combine the first four ingredients and knead the dough on a board until elastic and no longer sticking to the board. The longer you knead, the more elastic it gets. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let stand for 30 minutes or longer. Then place the dough on a floured cloth on a table and stretch. Place the backs of both hands under it with knuckles up and stretch until very thin, like paper — you can stretch it to a yard. Try not to get holes in the sheet. Brush with butter and slice apples over it, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over the top. Hold up the cloth and roll the dough jelly-roll fashion. Bake 1/2 hour at 400 degrees. Then reduce heat to 350 degrees until crisp and brown.
