Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 4–5 Tbsp. water
- 6 apples, cored (pared optional)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- drop of vanilla

Directions

Mix the flour, salt, shortening and water as for pie crust. Roll out and cut into 12 strips. Cross the strips. Place an apple in the center of each cross. Add a mix of sugar and cinnamon plus a dot of butter in each apple. Seal at the top with the crust strips. Mix the water, sugar, butter and vanilla for the syrup. Heat until the sugar and butter are melted. Pour over the dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
